Transfer of Ownership and its affect on the Airworthiness Certificate

What is the disposition of an Airworthiness Certificate when an aircraft has been sold or the ownership is otherwise transferred?

ANSWER: The following statement is on the airworthiness certificate: “this airworthiness certificate is effective as long as the maintenance, preventive maintenance and alterations are performed in accordance with Parts 21, 43, and 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations as appropriate and the aircraft is registered in the United States.

The change of ownership is recorded on separate documents. The airworthiness certificate remains valid as stated above regardless of change of ownership.
