Parts Approval

by Hamad Hollan
(Riyadh, Saudi Arabia)

What is required for parts to be approved for installation on an aircraft?

ANSWER:

For a new part to be eligible for installation on a U.S. registered aircraft, you would need an FAA Form 8130-3, an EASA Form 1 from the manufacturer, or a certificate of conformance from the manufacturer attesting to the parts conformity to an FAA production approval.

For a used part to be eligible for installation on a U.S. registered aircraft, you would need an FAA Form 8130-3, or an EASA Form 1 with a return to service statement (required by FAR 43.9) on the form. This is commonly referred to as a "Dual Release" EASA Form 1.

Refer to AC 20-62D which can be downloaded from this website by clicking on the "Advisory Circulars" button on the left hand side of this page.
